What I Am Not

If you are looking for a wordsmith to dazzle your audience with highfalutin language, I decline. (Note the use of the word “audience” rather than client or customer. Fancy words often impress – they rarely sell.)

It’s not that I can’t write in a grandiose style. I just don’t.

Why?

The purpose of copywriting is to persuade.

You want to explain something that will help sell your product or service? Or lock in the sale?

Use clear communication.

That is what I focus on. I help your prospect understand your products and services. If you have something of value for the reader, I can help. Writing simply benefits you and your clients.

That is what I do.

Others, much smarter than me, have taught the benefit of keeping it simple …

“The words of truth are simple.” – Aeschylus

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” – Leonardo da Vinci

“Truth is ever to be found in simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things.” – Isaac Newton

“The finest language is mostly made up of simple unimposing words.” – George Elliot

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” – Albert Einstein

“That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.” – Steve Jobs

“The business schools reward difficult complex behavior more than simple behavior, but simple behavior is more effective.” – Warren Buffett
